Phonological awareness is the umbrella of phonemic awareness. In OG, we teach the letters, the sound, and a keyword with each letter, then we use multisensory learning to really drive home the phonemic awareness. That means we have students see it, hear it, and write it for a full circle teaching approach.

Orton-Gillingham training starts with the most basic unit of sound, the phoneme. We teach students those sounds and keywords and build from there. Single consonants and vowels are the first sounds we teach, so they are kind of a big deal!
